Jun 03, 2009: Historic Bus Tour To Feature Jesse James NeighborhoodKEARNEY, Mo.: Jesse James Was My Neighbor is the theme of the historic bus tour sponsored by the Friends of the James Farm and scheduled for June 13. The first stop will be at New Hope Baptist Church where Frank and Jesse James' father once preached. There, lunch will be served by the church ladies and Rev. Robert James, portrayed by Pastor Russell Hyatt, will give a brief spiritual message. Other places of interest for the James lore student will include the Daniel Askew farm, the Oakland Cemetery where the Bigelow brothers are buried, Crackerneck School, Watkins Mill and Tryst Falls. James family historians will ride along to conduct the tour and answer any questions.The tour will begin at the James Farm east of Kearney, at noon on Saturday, June 13, and is estimated to take three and a half hours. The cost is $20 a ticket, plus a donation for the church ladies. Tickets can be purchased in Liberty at the Jesse James Bank Museum, in Kearney at the James Farm Museum and Big V Supermarket, in Excelsior Springs at The Leader newspaper office and in Smithville, see Frank Justice, president of the Smithville Historic Society, at the Patterson House Bed and Breakfast.
