Oct 23, 2009: Operation Twilight UpdateOfficers from eight northland law enforcement agencies began Operation Twilight shortly after 4:00 a.m. this morning. Armed with Secret Indictments issued by a Clay County Grand Jury, officers began looking for 33 suspects wanted for narcotics violations. The indictments were the result of an undercover investigation by the Clay County Investigative Squad over the past several months.By 1:00 p.m. eighteen of the suspects were arrested and in custody. Suspects were located across the KC metro area and as far away as Florida and Idaho. In addition to the suspects arrested on the secret indictments, there were five suspects arrested on unrelated charges. Sheriff's deputies followed up the arrests with the service of three search warrants on suspected drug houses in Clay County. Seven suspects were arrested out of those houses and two meth labs were discovered. Charges are expected later today. “This operation sends a real message to drug pushers,” said Clay County Sheriff's Lieutenant Steve Wright, “stay out of Clay County or you'll go to jail.” Additional arrests are anticipated over the next few days as sheriff's deputies continue to look for suspects charged in the secret indictments. # # # # # # |
