The Clay County Assessor's Office operates within the statutes of the state of Missouri. Its mission is to ensure that the tax burden is distributed equitably among the property owners. To achieve this, the Assessor's office conducts re-assessments of properties every other year, according to their market value. The property taxes are based on property value and the tax levies set by various taxing authorities, such as the county government, city governments, school districts and other taxing districts. Taxpayers can appeal the decision either informally with the Assessor's office, or through the Board of Equalization (BoE). To assist Clay County taxpayers, the Assessor's office makes its real estate records available through Clay County's award-winning Public Access Resource Center, and makes its Maps and aerial photographs available through its GIS office.
