Mission:

The Chief duty of the Clay County Auditor is to serve as the County's Financial Controller. The Auditor is responsible for the accounting of transactions of the county and preparing financial statements in accordance with Governmental Accounting Standards. Additionally, the Clay County Auditor is to perform annual audits of each County department on an annual basis or upon retirement of an officeholder. Other significant duties include performing an annual inventory of the county's fixed assets. The Auditor staff maintains control on payroll calculations and approved payroll journals produced by the county clerk's office. Additionally, the Auditor's office reviews all accounts payable activities for all funds and verifies compliance with the budget approved by the County Commission. The Auditor's office verifies activity in the office of county collector of revenue, the office of county assessor and the office of the Recorder of Deeds.
