INTERN NATURALIST/RANGER NEEDED - Available for the period of May through August. Currently enrolled full-time in college or university, working toward a degree in parks, recreation, wildlife management, criminal justice, biological sciences or a closely related field. Be personable, outgoing, and able to work directly with the public and with limited supervision. Be willing to live in park provided housing for duration of employment, if available. Be able to work outdoors for extended periods of time and under varied conditions. Must have transportation and a valid driver's license.

Reserve Ranger, Parks, Recreation & Historic Sites

Essential duties and responsibilities include: Providing law enforcement activities, under the authority of County ordinances and State law, for the Department including arrests, transportation to County detention center, investigations, reports of various types and other normal law enforcement duties as assigned; patroling park areas or lake in radio-equipped vehicle or boat assisting park visitors; checking park visitors for appropriate passes or permits; locking and unlocking gates at specified opening and closing times, reports damage to park property, investigates park disturbances; providing information to the public and visitors about park areas, facilities, rules and regulations, policies and procedures, opening and closing times, permit requirements, etc; answering the telephone and provides information to caller; refers callers to another source, if required; may collect money for permits and transports monies as assigned; preparing reports including daily logs, accident reports, transmission logs, complaint forms, and security check reports; providing assistance, as required, in emergency situations for the public and other agencies; rendering emergency first aid and CPR; requesting assistance from other law enforcement agencies, paramedic agencies, tow trucks, etc.; providing traffic control and crowd control services. Assists in searches for lost children, etc.; closing hazardous roads and barricades roads during dangerous conditions; conducting searches for possible drowning victims; reporting to Chief Ranger or his designee, all safety, health or environmental hazards; knowledge of department policies and procedures; knowledge of the Clay County Park ordinances, State law and proper application of both; knowledge of park facilities, operation, hours, locations, boundaries, etc.; knowledge of citizen's rights and recreation enforcement practices; knowledge of radio ten codes and proper use; knowledge of the roles of agencies such as police departments, Missouri Department of Conservation, State Water Patrol, and the Sheriff's Department and their working relationship to Park Rangers; knowledge of conflict resolution and compliant resolution practices; knowledge of basic self-defense techniques; knowledge of proper use of hand tools; knowledge of the Missouri Wildlife Code; knowledge of and skill in communication techniques; written and oral; skill in the operations of an automobile, outboard motor boat, and four wheel drive vehicle; skill in interpersonal relations and other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications include: Must have working knowledge of park operations and law enforcement practices and procedures; must have skill in operations of required tools and equipment; must be able to effectively meet and deal with the public; handle stressful situations; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; must be able to pass qualification exams for firearms; must obtain certification in Red Cross first aid, advance first aid, CPR, lifesaving techniques and defensive driving; must possess a valid Missouri Driver's License; must be in excellent physical condition; must have or be able to obtain a Class “B” certification from the Department of Public Safety (P.O.S.T.). Desired Qualifications include: Prior County or City government work experience; excellent oral and written communication skills; and intermediate experience level with Microsoft Office products. Other duties, qualifications, and skills may be required.

Maintenance Worker - Golf Course, Parks, Recreation & Historic Sites

Primary responsibilities include: performing ground maintenance tasks including mowing greens, tees, fairways and rough, edge, trim grass areas, raking and edging bunkers, moving golf hole and tee markers locations; planting mulch, staking, fertilizing, triming trees and shrubs; cutting, rolling, laying and watering sod; installing, cleaning out and repairing drainage drop inlets; picking up, loading and securing debris and trash; operating and maintaining greens' mowers, golf course rough mowers, fairway mowers, tee mowers, greens' mower string trimmers, and chain saws; performing golf course improvement tasks: assembling and/or repairing ball washers, bunkers, trash cans, signs, bumper blocks, tees, irrigation and drainage; using skid loader with mounted boom or bucket to clear ice and snow from parking lots, and shoveling sidewalks at golf course; performing cart path repair and improvements including cutting out concrete and repairing; performing preventive maintenance on equipment: changing oil and filter; greasing moving parts; airing up and/or changing tires; sharpening or changing blades, belts, springs, chains; cleaning by pressure washing or with compressed air; sanding, priming and painting rust areas; operating golf course vehicular fleet and grounds maintenance equipment including pickups, trailers, utility tractor, fairway mowers, rough mowers, greens' mowers, tee mowers and trim mowers, skid loader, turf utility vehicles, chain saws, power seeders, aerators, sod cutters, fertilizer spreaders, box blades, post hole augers, edgers, sprayers, and trimmers; using hand tools to perform repairs and tasks: changing hole locations on greens, fabricating with metal by using electric or gas welders and gas cutting torch, jack hammer, shovels, rakes, hoes, whips, levelers to maintain grounds and roads; chain saws, pruners, trimmers, bow saws, drills for resetting golf course/information signs, saws for cutting concrete and forms.

Desired minimum qualifications include: must have a High School diploma or State approved equivalent; must have a minimum of one year of experience in grounds maintenance and/or light equipment operations or related experience; and must possess a valid driver's license.

Desired qualifications include: A minimum of three years of experience in grounds maintenance and/or light equipment operations or related experience; and excellent customer service skills.

Maintenance Mechanic III, Facilities Management Department

Essential duties and responsibilities include: Providing emergency maintenance services after hours when called; supervising and assisting with security equipment repairs and maintenance; performing a variety of advanced maintenance, reconstruction/remodeling and repair services for County buildings and facilities to ensure proper mechanical operations. Functions include electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning, carpentry, painting, communication systems and electronics; performing snow removal operations; performing general services such as moving file cabinets, hanging pictures and delivering various items; checking building for needed maintenance and repair work per supervisor’s schedule; operating Energy Management Program; operating key machine upon instructions of supervisor; replacing/repairing broken items per work orders; performing plumbing and electrical repairs per work orders; performing repairs on various office furniture per work orders; removing locking devices and completing repairs or delivering to vendor for repair, replacing same; performing repairs to electronic lock systems; changing light bulbs and florescent lighting upon request, refers repair and ballast work to electricians, when needed; performing carpet repair and laying new carpet when furnished; maintaining grounds and irrigation systems; carrying assigned Duty Pager; preparing surfaces for painting, performing patch and repair, and painting interior and exterior of buildings/facilities; technical Certification in a key maintenance area; and performing other assigned tasks as required.

Minimum qualifications include: Having a high school diploma or State approved equivalent and experience in facilities management. Must have at least three to five years of increasingly responsible related work experience, or equivalent combination of related education and experience. Must be able to transport oneself to a variety of locations, climbing stairs and ladders. Must posses a valid State Driver’s License. Must pass back ground check and drug screening. Desired minimum qualifications include: Having one to two years field experience in the HVAC and/or plumbing industry.

Generally M-F

Starting Salary:
$32,356 - $40,446/year, plus Benefits.
