Conceal-Carry Weapons Permits
NOTE: CCW Permit Application Hours: As of Apr 5, 2005, the hours have changed to Tuesdays and Fridays, 9AM through 3PM.

Information for applicants for CCW permit: (read as pdf)
- The fee for filing this application is $100.00 which is non-refundable (A certified check or money order; NO CASH).
Must be written out to: Clay County Sheriff's Office
- All applicants must be at least twenty-three (23) years of age.
- Must be a Citizen of the United States (By birth or naturalization)
- May be asked to produce a birth certificate or,
- Documentation of naturalization
- You must have been a resident of Missouri for at least six (6) months or in the military stationed in Missouri , or the spouse of such member of the military
- Must be a resident of Clay County
- At time of filing the application the following documents must be presented:
- Valid Missouri driver’s license or identification card
- Certificate of Completion from afirearms instruction course meeting all of the requirements of R.S.Mo. 571.094. (See our list of approved providers)
- An applicant cannot have been convicted of any felony or the following misdemeanors:
- Crime involving an explosive weapon, firearm, firearm silencer or gas gun
- Convicted, pled guilty, pled nolo contendere to one or more offenses involving crimes of violence within the past five (5) years
- Convicted of two or more offenses of driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs within the past five (5) years or possession or abuse of a controlled substance within the past five (5) years
- Be a fugitive from justice (have an active warrant existing for your arrest)
- Be currently charged by information or indictment with a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one (1) year under the laws of any state of the United States other than a crime classified as a misdemeanor under the laws of any state punishable by imprisonment of two years or less not involving an explosive weapon, firearm, firearm silencer, or gas gun.
- You cannot have engaged in a pattern of behavior, documented in public records, that would give the reasonable belief you present a danger to yourself or others
- You cannot be the respondent of a Full Order of Protection still in effect.
- You cannot have been adjudged mentally incompetent during past five (5) years or committed to a mental health facility as defined in 632.005 RSMo; or similar institution in another state that followed a hearing wherein you were represented by counsel or other representative.
- If prior military, cannot have been discharged dishonorably. (May be asked to provide a copy of your DD-214).
Please Note:
- Any information obtained from the background investigation that reveals an applicant has been previously convicted of a felony, and documented to be in possession of a firearm, will be forwarded to Federal authorities for possible prosecution under Title 18, United States Code, Section 922(g)(1).
- Any false statement by you on the application will be prosecuted for perjury, pursuant to the laws of the state of Missouri .

Conceal-Carry Frequently Asked Questions
- What are the renewal procedures for my CCW permit?
A concealed carry endorsement shall be renewed for a qualified applicant upon receipt of the properly completed renewal application and the required renewal fee by the sheriff of the county of the applicant's residence. The renewal application shall contain the same required information as set forth in subsection 3 of section 571.101, except that in lieu of the fingerprint requirement of subsection 5 of section 571.101 and the firearms safety training, the applicant need only display his or her current driver's license or nondriver's license containing a concealed carry endorsement. Upon successful completion of all renewal requirements, the sheriff shall issue a certificate of qualification which contains the date such certificate was renewed.
CCW permit renewals will be processed on Wednesdays from 09:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The cost is $50.00 in form of money order or cashier’s check. Cash, credit/debit Cards or personal checks can not be accepted.
Expired permits: If your CCW permit is expired for more than one month, the renewal fee is $50.00 plus an additional $10 per month. If your CCW permit is expired for 6 months or longer, you will have to reapply for a CCW permit.
- What should I do if I change my residence?
Any person issued a concealed carry endorsement pursuant to sections 571.101 to 571.121 shall notify the department of revenue and the sheriffs of both the old and new jurisdictions of the endorsement holder's change of residence within thirty days after the changing of a permanent residence. The endorsement holder shall furnish proof to the department of revenue and the sheriff in the new jurisdiction that the endorsement holder has changed his or her residence. The change of residence shall be made by the department of revenue onto the individual's driving record and the new address shall be accessible by the Missouri uniform law enforcement system within three days of receipt of the information.
- What if my CCW permit (License or nondriver’s license) is lost or destroyed?
Any person issued a driver's license or nondriver's license containing a concealed carry endorsement pursuant to sections 571.101 to 571.121 shall notify the sheriff or his or her designee of the endorsement holder's county or city of residence within seven days after actual knowledge of the loss or destruction of his or her driver's license or nondriver's license containing a concealed carry endorsement. The endorsement holder shall furnish a statement to the sheriff that the driver's license or nondriver's license containing the concealed carry endorsement has been lost or destroyed. After notification of the loss or destruction of a driver's license or nondriver's license containing a concealed carry endorsement, the sheriff shall reissue a new certificate of qualification within three working days of being notified by the concealed carry endorsement holder of its loss or destruction. The reissued certificate of qualification shall contain the same personal information, including expiration date, as the original certificate of qualification. The applicant shall then take the certificate to the department of revenue, and the department of revenue shall proceed on the certificate in the same manner as provided in subsection 7 section 571.101. Upon application for a license pursuant to chapter 302, RSMo, the director of revenue shall issue a driver's license or nondriver's license containing a concealed carry endorsement if the applicant is otherwise eligible to receive such license.
- What should I do if I change my name?
If a person issued a concealed carry endorsement changes his or her name, the person to whom the endorsement was issued shall obtain a corrected certificate of qualification for a concealed carry endorsement with a change of name from the sheriff who issued such certificate upon the sheriff's verification of the name change. The endorsement holder shall furnish proof of the name change to the department of revenue and the sheriff within thirty days of changing his or her name and display his or her current driver's license or nondriver's license containing a concealed carry endorsement. The endorsement holder shall apply for a new driver's license or nondriver's license containing his or her new name. Such application for a driver's license or nondriver's license shall be made pursuant to chapter 302, RSMo. The director of revenue shall issue a driver's license or nondriver's license with concealed carry endorsement with the endorsement holder's new name if the applicant is otherwise eligible for such license. The director of revenue shall take custody of the old driver's license or nondriver's license. The name change shall be made by the department of revenue onto the individual's driving record and the new name shall be accessible by the Missouri uniform law enforcement system within three days of receipt of the information.
- What if I don’t update my residence or name change within the state required time?
A concealed carry endorsement shall be automatically invalid after thirty days if the endorsement holder has changed his or her name or changed his or her residence and not notified the department of revenue and sheriff of a change of name or residence as required in subsections 4 and 6 of this section*.
* Note: unless otherwise specified, “this secton” refers to RSMO 571.104, “section” refers to the Missouri Revised Statutes (RSMo).
